چکیده

Three Holstein steer calves (179 kg) were fitted with reentrant cannulas at the proximal duodenum. The animals were used in a series of metabolism experiments designed to measure duodenal passage of nonammonia and nonmicrobial N, and to evaluate the extent of degradation of supplemental protein within the rumen. When casein-, soybean meal-, cottonseed mealand corn gluten meal-supplemented diets were fed at 3,000 g/day, estimates of rumen protein degradation were 103, 85, 76 and 54%, respectively. When soybean meal, cottonseed meal, linseed meal, corn gluten meal and meat and bone meal were fed at 4,000 g/day, rumen protein degradation estimates were 82, 39, 56, 39 and 30%, respectively. A prediction equation was developed for estimating rumen bypass on the basis of solubility as well as dacron bag rumen digestion rate estimates. The correlation between predicted values and those measured in vivo was high (r = .984, P<.01). Microbial efficiency (grams microbial protein/100 g organic matter fermented) averaged 15.1, with a range of 11 to 19. Microbial efficiency was closely related to intake of digestible organic matter and rate of passage of nonmicrobial organic matter from the rumen. (

Supplemental protein degradation, bacterial protein synthesis and nitrogen retention in sheep eating sodium hydroxide-treated straw.

1. Alkali (sodium hydroxide)-treated wheat straw was given to six rumen- and abomasal-cannulated sheep to study the rumen degradation of cotton-seed meal (CSM) and barley (B), and the effects of these supplements on nitrogen retention and efficiency of bacterial protein synthesis were measured. 2. N degradation, using porous synthetic (nylon) bags incubated within the rumen (P), and in vivo mea...

Dose-Response Effects of Various Rumen Microbial Modifier Essential Oils on Protein Degradation Using in vitro Gas Production Technique

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of various doses of essential oils (EO) of thyme (TEO) or cinnamon (CEO) on in vitro rumen degradation of protein of a commercial total mixed ratio (TMR) containing 16.4% crud protein (CP). Treatments were TMR without any of EOs (control); control plus 25 µL of TEO (TEO25); control plus 50 µL of TEO (TEO50); control plus 25 µL of CEO (CEO25) ...

Utilization of Date by Product on Sheep Feeding: Its Ruminal Degradation, Nutrient Digestibility and Its Effect on Sheep Growth

This study was conducted in two separate experiments. Four rumen-cannulated sheep were allocated in the first experiment to evaluate date by-product (DBP) and date seed (DS) nutrients degradation in rumen. In experiment two eighteen fattening lambs were allocated in three different treatments (6 animals/treatment) to evaluate DBP effects on animal performance and nutrients’ digestibility. Three...

Effect of Cut and Irrigation Water Quality on Chemical Composition and in situ Rumen Degradability of Alfalfa

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of cut and irrigation water quality on chemical composition and in situ dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) degradability of alfalfa. Three fistulated Zel sheep (approximately 2 years old) were used in a complete randomized design to evaluate the in situ rumen degradability. Ruminal in...
